Here in Ireland — and it’s just grand!

I just wanted to write a quick post to say that we are here, my charges, my co-chaperone, and me.

It was a long and grueling flight, but I survived.  We are all utterly exhausted.  Most of us have not slept at all.  So far, it’s cool.  We’re in Dublin, and at this very moment the big game between England and Paraguay is on.  It’s really fun to see everyone so revved.

Okay, I’ll write more later.

Holy Crap!

I’m going to Ireland.

I know it has been a wicked long time since I’ve written (how MA of me…), but it has been the end of the school year for me, and that is crazy time. And to top it off, I’m headed to Ireland on a school trip in a few days. It just came up. Hopefully I will have some computer access and I can write a few posts.

Amy and Brian Are Married!

So one of my other recent travels was to Amy and Brian’s wedding. Here are some of the photos Sujal took. Amy’s the chick in white. I’m the chick in pink. They had a great ceremony which was very short and ended with a sing-a-long on Presley’s “Can’t Help Falling in Love”. The ceremony and reception took place at The Orchards in Williamstown, MA, which is a very elegant inn. They give you cookies with their turn down service. I still don’t understand the need for a turn down service, because you can’t pull their own sheets back, but I definitely understand the need for cookies. Congrats to Amy and Brian!!!

Way Too Long

So it has been way too long since my last post. I’d been away for awhile, and actually I began posting, but got caught up in trying to find cool links for: Demolition Derby. So I had been away for a bit, with the culminating event of my “travels” being the Erie County Fair Demolition Derby. It is a cultural event like no other! My parents used to take me as a small child, and as a four year old, well I was scared shitless of the noise, the fires, and the smells. But as an adult, woo-hoo — it’s the rockin’est. I went to one at the Noho Tr-County fair a few years ago with some grad school friends, and we had such a blast drinking Icehouse beer and rooted for our favorite hunks of junk. So when i was going to Buffalo to visit my mom, I suggested we go to the Erie County Fair one, and she jumped on it. There is nothing in the world like watching a bunch of cars smash into each other on purpose. Mind you, I do not rubberneck when I pass accident scenes. I’m generally not a proponent of violence, though clearly violence IS the answer. My other had sold her older car the night before we went, and we were sure we’d see it backing up into another car in the ring. Alas, our hope and dreams went unfulfilled. On that same little vacation, I visited family at Long Beach in Wainfleet, Ontario. i looked for good links to that particular Long Beach to no avail. My family has been renting a cottage on Long Beach in Ontario for many years, basically since my maternal grandmother was a little girl. It’s a very special place to the people who go there, who apparently are not that internet savvy. You’ll have to trek on over there for yourself if you want to see it. The sunsets in August are amazing! I’ve heard they are even better in October.

Writing Workshop

I haven’t written much for the past week or so because Sujal and I were in Acadia national Park, and now I am in Portland, OR at Reed College at the Tin House Summer Writers Workshop. I have been here working with Matthea Harvey in a poetry workshop. It has all been very good so far. I’m meeting all sorts of interesting people. One of them is Felicia Sullivan who runs a journal called Small Spiral Notebook. Anyway, I need to get back to my class. More later.
